100% agree with your analysis of the new Beyonce - I find it very strange to see people trying to gatekeep her out of the country genre. Especially because I think her new album engages with the genre a lot more thoughtfully than a lot of the country music that was topping the charts last year.

Thanks Tom. As a songwriter, I have songs that sound country-ish, songs that are rock n' roll, songs with a blues flavor, and some that people refer to as "singer/songwriter."

I started calling it, "Modern Americana" - because it isn't really roots-based. In the end it is just music. Ultimately, it is whatever the listener calls it, more than what the artist calls it.

If listeners are tuning into country-music streaming channels, calling Beyonce's album, country, it is country. Or it is music.
