The Pen (a poem about living)
Get scribbling folks!!!
I haven’t updated my Substack in more than week. It isn’t due to a lack of creative endeavors and progress. In fact, I’ve enjoyed having my head down and making progress far more than talking (or writing) about it.
I have a parable-esque fiction piece I’m writing and hope to publish it next week.
I made significant improvements to Love Has Flown. As one recording engineer told me after hearing just the music.
“This is pretty well nailed down. Vocals laid over this and it’s ready to go.”
But it is Thursday and I should be posting something. To that end, here is a poem I wrote back in 2000. I recall that my oldest had a school writing project where he had to take an inanimate object and relate it to some aspect of life!
I liked the idea and wrote, “The Pen” - below.
I hope you enjoy!
THE PEN © 2000 - Matthew Moran I sit with pen, a poem to write Its ink flows darkly across the page And I realize its link to life Each line and letter a metered day At this sad thought I halt my pen A vain attempt to stem its flow But I know that ink unused runs dry Its purpose spent with naught to show For I am the soul to the pen I hold And the pen must follow where I lead As my soul in life must show the way My life the pen, the ink my deeds So scribble deep and doodle large Color outside lines, draw off the page Ere ink runs dry and your life unlived Your pages blank and death the wage ###
Thank you for joining me on this journey!
